Early Life and Education

Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu, a prominent Nigerian politician, was born on October 26, 1968, in the vibrant city of Wukari, located in Taraba State, Nigeria. His upbringing was marked by a strong sense of community and a deep commitment to service, values that would shape his future career in politics.

Jethro Zikengyu’s educational journey began with his primary and secondary education in Wukari, where he demonstrated exceptional academic prowess and leadership qualities. He showed a keen interest in the healthcare sector from a young age, driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of his fellow citizens.

Education and Early Career in Nursing

After completing his secondary education, Jethro Zikengyu pursued a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at a renowned university in Nigeria. His dedication to the field was evident as he excelled academically and actively participated in various healthcare initiatives. He is a product of some of the most reputable institutions of learnings, namely; Kalu Institute in Almeria Spain, where he bagged a Master’s Degree in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aids in 2019, Staffordshire University United Kingdom 2011, where he obtained PGD certificate in public Health, Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Lagos, 2005, where he obtained Certificate in HIV/AIDS project Management, University of Nigeria, Nssuka in Enugu state where he obtained a BNSc, Nursing Sciences, 1998, College of Nursing Yola, Adamawa State, 1992 where he obtained General Certificate in Nursing, he attended Government secondary school, Wukari where he obtained General Certificate in Education,1988 and his Primary education at Ebenezer primary school, 1982 in Wukari local government area of Taraba State where he obtained First leaving school certificate (FSLC). Upon graduating, he became a registered nurse and quickly gained recognition for his compassionate care and commitment to improving healthcare access in underserved communities.

Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu is a renowned for great strides and achievements in public health sector. His nursing career was characterized by his involvement with several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) dedicated to public health and medical outreach. He tirelessly worked in rural and urban areas, providing essential medical services and health education to those in need. His dedication and empathy earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and communities alike.

Transition to Politics

Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu served Taraba state as a Nurse for close to twentys years, later joined Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to further advance his desire for development, worked across different spheres of life. He contributed so much in the area of health and health related issues (HIV, Malaria, TB, Cancer etc.) in Taraba State and Nigeria as a whole, he also participated in development of different guidelines and documents for implementation in the state. A great number of nurses in the state are his products when he was lecturing with college of Nursing, Jalingo. He is a subtle helper who supported many to become what they are without publicity.

He served as:

  • Commissioner, Taraba State, 2022 where he doubled and commissioner for Ministry of Poverty and Alleviation and Ministry of commerce and industry. 
  • Special Advisor to the governor of Taraba State, Darius Dickson in 2021
  • Special Assistance, 2015 to late. Pharm. Danbaba Danfulani Suntai
  • Technical Officer Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative Taraba State Office Jalingo, 2013

Driven by a deep-rooted desire to create lasting change at a broader level, Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu transitioned into the world of politics. He aspired for House of Assembly, Wukari 1 in 2011, 2015 and now 2023 but was not privileged to serve in 2011 and 2015, as it was not God’s appointed time.

In recognition of his track record of service and his understanding of the needs of the people, Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu in 2023 ran for the position of Member of the Taraba State House of Assembly, representing Wukari I constituency under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) (a platform that focused on security, healthcare reform, infrastructure development, education, and community empowerment) and won. His decision to run for public office was influenced by the realization that systemic change was required to address the pressing issues facing his constituency, Wukari I.

Current Role as Member of the House of Assembly

Today, Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu serves as the elected Member representing Wukari I constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly. He is the Majority leader, Taraba State House of Assembly who also doubled as a Chairman Rules, Business and Legislative Compliance, Chairman works and Housing and Member Health services, Justice, Judiciary and cabinet Affairs. At the National level, he is the secretary Majority Leaders forum of Nigeria.

In this capacity, he continues to champion the causes he held throughout his career: improved healthcare, infrastructure development, education, and community empowerment.

His journey from being a compassionate nurse to a dedicated politician underscores his unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community and the state at large. Hon. Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu’s life story is a testament to the power of service and the profound impact one individual can have when driven by a genuine desire to uplift others.
